Proofsource and GitLab: merge requests that keep your citations
Connect one GitLab repository and Proofsource runs its pull request check on your merge requests. When a change removes a sentence that AI answers quote, one comment says so, with the answer preview of any fix the request ships. Your team can then keep what ChatGPT, Perplexity and other engines already use.

Proofsource and GitLab, in short
The facts, ready to quote.

Why we love GitLab
In the makers' own words, from their own pages. Proofsource builds on it, never around it.
One platform from plan to production
GitLab brings planning, source control, CI and security into a single application, so a team does not stitch tools together to ship a change.
From about.gitlab.comBuilt-in CI and CD
GitLab's continuous integration runs pipelines defined next to your code, so every merge request can be built and tested automatically.
From about.gitlab.comSecurity and compliance in the flow
Security scanning and compliance controls sit inside the merge request, so teams find problems while the change is still easy to fix.
From about.gitlab.comHow Proofsource uses GitLab
Comments on GitLab merge requests that would remove a sentence AI answers quote, with the answer preview of any fix.
- Know
Learn which sentences AI quotes
Proofsource records the pages and sentences ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and the other engines use when they answer questions about your brand.
- Connect
Watch merge requests on one repository
Proofsource creates a webhook and a secret, shown once, so GitLab tells it when a merge request opens or changes.
- Act
Comment when a quote is at risk
If a merge request removes a quoted sentence, one comment appears on it saying which sentence and which engines used it.
- Prove
Show the effect of what you kept
When a fix ships through the request, its comment carries the answer preview, and Proofsource later re-asks the questions to show the result.
Set up GitLab in 4 steps
Open Where Proofsource acts
In Integrations, find the pull request check and choose GitLab.
Create an access token for the repository
In GitLab, make a token scoped to the one repository and paste it into Proofsource.
Add the webhook and secret
Proofsource makes a webhook address and a secret and shows the secret once. Add both to the repository's webhook settings in GitLab.
Open a merge request
Any merge request that removes a quoted sentence now gets the comment. Disconnect by deleting the webhook or token in GitLab.
What you unlock with GitLab
Protect what AI quotes
A merge request that removes a quoted sentence gets a clear comment before it merges.
Answer preview
The comment shows how engines answer with any fix the request ships.
One repository, one token
Access stops at the repository you choose, and the webhook secret is shown once.
Same check, any host
GitLab, GitHub and Bitbucket teams get the same comment and the same wording.
No dashboards to watch
The warning appears where reviewers already are, on the merge request.
Before and after
See whether the sentences you kept keep earning citations.
Questions about Proofsource and GitLab
What does Proofsource do on GitLab?
It runs the pull request check on merge requests. When one removes a sentence that AI answers quote, it posts a single comment saying so, and adds the answer preview of any fix the request ships. It does not edit your code.
How do I connect GitLab?
Paste an access token for one repository and add the webhook and secret that Proofsource makes. The secret is shown once, so copy it straight into GitLab.
What access does it need?
A token for the one repository you pick, enough to read merge requests and comment on them. It has no access to your other projects.
How do I disconnect?
Delete the webhook or revoke the token in GitLab, or disconnect on the check in Proofsource. The comments stop straight away.
Can Proofsource open merge requests with fixes on GitLab?
Not today. On GitLab and Bitbucket the integration is the check and its comments. Fixes delivered as pull requests are done through the GitHub App.
What does Live mean for GitLab?
The check is open to every organization. It is the same check that runs on GitHub.
How does this help my AI visibility?
Once a sentence earns citations from engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, an accidental edit can lose them. The check tells the reviewer before the change merges, so the gains from a fix are kept.
