Proofsource and Cursor: gaps and fixes beside your code

Add Proofsource to Cursor with one click and your editor can see what AI says about your brand. Ask which competitors ChatGPT recommends instead of you, which sources get cited, and which fixes are open, then ship the change in the same window and have Proofsource check the result.

Why we love Cursor

In the makers' own words, from their own pages. Proofsource builds on it, never around it.

An agent inside your editor

Cursor's agent can complete multi-step tasks in your project, running terminal commands and editing code with you in the loop.

From cursor.com

MCP built in

Cursor connects to external tools and data through the Model Context Protocol, so a new capability is a short config entry away.

From cursor.com

A coding agent for ambitious software

Cursor is built for developers who want an editor that understands the whole codebase and helps carry the work forward.

How Proofsource uses Cursor

Proofsource's MCP tools inside the Cursor editor: visibility, gaps and fixes next to your code.

  1. Know

    Ask from the editor

Ask Cursor how often AI mentions your brand, which competitors are named, and which sources are cited, with answers read from your workspace.

  2. Act

    See open fix opportunities

The gap register lists what keeps engines from citing you and the fix for each, so you can start with the one that is a code change.

  3. Ship

    Date the fix

After you merge, Cursor can mark the fix shipped in Proofsource once you confirm, so the effect can be verified.

  4. Prove

    Read the verification

Ask whether the fix worked and Cursor reads the before and after for each engine, with sample sizes.

Set up Cursor in 4 steps

  1. Open Connect AI apps

In Proofsource go to Settings, Connect AI apps, then For developers and find the Cursor card.

  2. Select Add to Cursor

The button opens Cursor with Proofsource ready to install. Or add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project.

  3. Sign in when Cursor asks

Cursor opens a Proofsource sign-in. Approve once and the tools appear. No API key is needed.

  4. Ask your first question

Try: is my brand mentioned in ChatGPT answers? Writes such as tracking a question or marking a fix shipped always ask first.

Asking the agent which gap to fix first.

What you unlock with Cursor

Fixes you can act on

The gap register sorts what to fix, and which of it is code.

Shipped fixes are verified before and after.

Writes ask first

Tracking a question or marking a fix shipped always asks.

No key needed

Sign in with your Proofsource account; keys are only for unattended agents.

Questions about Proofsource and Cursor

What does Proofsource do inside Cursor?

It gives Cursor's agent ten tools: list_brands, list_topics, get_visibility, get_competitors, get_citations, get_changes, list_fix_opportunities, get_fix_verification, create_prompt and mark_fix_shipped. Reads are open; the two writes, tracking a question and marking a fix shipped, always ask you first.

Do I need an API key?

No. Add to Cursor opens a Proofsource sign-in. A key is only for an agent that runs with no one to sign in, and a read-only key cannot write.

Where does the configuration live?

In ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project, with a single mcpServers entry named proofsource that points at your server URL.

How do I disconnect Cursor?

Remove the proofsource entry from mcp.json, or revoke Cursor under Connected apps in Proofsource settings. Its next request is refused right away.

What does Live mean for Cursor?

The connection is generally available. The Cursor card and its one-click link are on the Connect AI apps screen.

How does it help my AI visibility?

It puts the sourced gaps in front of the people who can fix them in code, then verifies whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and the other engines changed their answers.

Which AI engines does Proofsource check?

Up to 10 depending on your plan: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI. The free scan and trial run four.
