Proofsource and VS Code: AI visibility, without leaving the editor

Add the Proofsource remote MCP server to VS Code and your agent can read your AI visibility while you work: who ChatGPT names instead of you, which sources are cited, and which fixes to do next. There is nothing extra to install: it uses the standard MCP support built into VS Code.

Why we love VS Code

In the makers' own words, from their own pages. Proofsource builds on it, never around it.

MCP servers for the agent

VS Code lets you add remote MCP servers by their HTTP endpoint, so an agent can use outside tools without installing a local runtime.

Extensions add languages, debuggers and tools, and workspaces can recommend the ones a team needs, so the editor fits every project.

How Proofsource uses VS Code

Any VS Code MCP setup can call the Proofsource tools to read AI visibility from the editor.

  1. Connect

    Add a remote MCP server

Add the Proofsource URL as an HTTP server in VS Code, then sign in in the browser or send an API key.

  2. Know

    Ask while you code

Ask the agent how visible your brand is, which competitors are named and which pages AI cites.

  3. Act

    Pick the next fix

Ask for the fix opportunities worth doing and keep the work next to the code that ships it.

  4. Prove

    Check the effect

After shipping, ask whether the fix moved the numbers and read the before and after with sample sizes.

Set up VS Code in 4 steps

  1. Add a server in VS Code

In VS Code's Add Server flow, choose HTTP and enter the Proofsource MCP server URL, from the docs under MCP.

  2. Sign in

Sign in to Proofsource in the browser when prompted, pick a workspace if you have several and allow.

  3. Or send an API key

If you would rather not sign in, make an API key in Proofsource and send it as the server's auth header. Keep it out of chat and out of the repo.

  4. Check a tool runs

Ask the agent a question about your brand and confirm a Proofsource tool runs and its answer reflects the output.

Questions about Proofsource and VS Code

Do I need a Proofsource extension for VS Code?

No. VS Code connects through its standard remote MCP support, so there is nothing extra to install and the editor can call the Proofsource tools straight away.

How do I add it?

Add a remote MCP server of the HTTP type with the Proofsource URL from the docs, then sign in in the browser or send an API key.

Where do I find the details in Proofsource?

There is no dedicated VS Code card. Look under Settings, then Connect AI apps, in the For developers section, and in the docs under MCP.

What can the agent do?

It can read visibility, competitors, citations, changes and fix opportunities, and check whether a fix worked. A few tools write, such as tracking a new question or marking a fix shipped, and those need write access.

How do I disconnect?

Remove the server in VS Code and revoke the sign-in or API key in Proofsource under Settings.

How does it help my AI visibility?

It puts the data and fixes in front of the people shipping the changes. Proofsource checks results across up to 10 engines depending on plan: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI.
