Bing AI Performance import, for your Copilot citations

Bing Webmaster Tools offers an AI Performance report that shows how Microsoft's AI answers cite your site. Proofsource takes the files that report downloads, up to three at a time (citations over time, cited pages and grounding queries), and stores them as your brand's Copilot citations, next to your other AI visibility and traffic data. It is for teams who already use Bing Webmaster Tools.

What is the Bing AI Performance report?

The AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft's own record of how its AI answers, such as Copilot, cite your website. It lists how often your pages were cited over time, which pages were cited, and the grounding queries: the searches Microsoft's AI ran behind the scenes to find sources for an answer.

It is first-party data from the engine itself, which makes it valuable. Proofsource brings it next to your other AI visibility numbers, your analytics and the fixes you ship, so it is easy to check alongside them.

Proofsource lets you upload the report's files as Bing downloads them. It reads the citations-over-time, cited-pages and grounding-queries files, checks they are real AI Performance exports and stores the rows as your brand's Copilot citations, so the numbers sit beside everything else Proofsource tracks. If you connect Bing Webmaster Tools with one Microsoft sign-in, Proofsource also adds and verifies your sites and reads the same report by sync.

How it works

Upload the files Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report downloads and see your Microsoft Copilot citations, cited pages and grounding queries in Proofsource.

  1. Download from Bing

In Bing Webmaster Tools, open AI Performance and download the citations, pages and grounding queries files.

  2. Upload to Proofsource

Drop up to three files at once. If a file name carries no dates, set the period it covers.

  3. Files are checked

Proofsource confirms each file is an AI Performance export and explains plainly if one is not.

  4. See Copilot citations

The rows are stored as your brand's Copilot citations, next to your other AI data.

Questions about Bing AI Performance import

What is the Bing AI Performance report?

It is a report in Bing Webmaster Tools that shows how Microsoft's AI answers, such as Copilot, cite your site: citations over time, the pages cited and the grounding queries behind them.

Which files can I upload?

Up to three files at once, exactly as Bing Webmaster Tools downloads them: citations over time, cited pages and grounding queries.

What are grounding queries?

They are the searches Microsoft's AI runs to find sources for an answer. They show which questions led the AI to your pages.

What if I upload the wrong file?

Proofsource checks every file and refuses anything that is not an AI Performance export, with a plain message telling you to download it again and upload it unchanged.

Can viewers import files?

No. Importing writes data, so it needs a member who can edit. Viewers can read the results.

Is there a direct Bing connection?

Yes. Connect Bing Webmaster Tools with one Microsoft sign-in and Proofsource adds and verifies your sites and reads the AI Performance report by sync. The file upload stays available for anyone who prefers to import the files themselves.

Does Proofsource track Copilot answers directly?

Proofsource tracks up to 10 AI engines depending on your plan: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI. The Bing import works on its own, whichever engines your plan covers.

How is this different from Copilot tracking in Profound or Rankscale?

Those tools track Copilot answers by asking it questions, which is useful. The Bing import brings Microsoft's own citation counts and grounding queries for your site, which is a valuable first-party view.
