Proofsource and Akamai: DataStream logs, read for AI crawlers
Create a DataStream stream for your property, send it to a Custom HTTPS destination, and Proofsource counts every verified AI crawler visit, page by page. Each line goes through the field mapping and the same IP-range and reverse-DNS check, so a fake GPTBot never inflates your numbers.

Why we love Akamai
In the makers' own words, from their own pages. Proofsource builds on it, never around it.
Near real-time streaming without SDKs
DataStream collects performance and security data from your properties on Akamai's edge and streams it to a destination you choose, with no client integrations or code changes.
From techdocs.akamai.comFlexible destinations
You can stream to cloud storage, a custom HTTPS endpoint or a monitoring platform, and pick JSON or structured output, so the data fits whatever tool comes next.
From techdocs.akamai.comYou choose the fields
DataStream lets you pick exactly which data set parameters each log line carries, so a stream can be light and aimed at one purpose.
From techdocs.akamai.comHow Proofsource uses Akamai
Counts verified AI crawler visits from your Akamai DataStream logs, with a field mapping and bot check on every line.
- Connect
Create the stream
In Akamai Control Center you create a DataStream stream for the property, with the fields the card lists and JSON as the format.
- Read
Map and verify each line
Proofsource maps the JSON fields, matches each user agent to a known AI crawler and checks the IP range and reverse DNS.
- Show
See reads per page
Crawler sources and AI traffic show which pages each crawler visited and which status they received.
- Prove
Link reads to answers
When you ship a fix, Proofsource shows whether crawlers fetched it and whether the engines now name you.
Set up Akamai in 4 steps
Open Integrations, Crawler sources
Choose More crawler sources, then Akamai. The card shows the destination URL and the Authorization value to use.
Create a DataStream stream
Pick the fields reqTimeSec, cliIP, UA, reqPath, reqHost, statusCode, reqMethod and referer, with JSON as the log format.
Choose Custom HTTPS
Set the destination to the Proofsource URL and add a custom header named Authorization with the key from the card.
Check the field mapping
If you named fields differently, adjust the mapping on the card. Visits start counting as soon as logs arrive.
| Page | Crawler | Visits |
|---|---|---|
| /products/trail-bike | GPTBot | 204 |
| /guides/sizing | ClaudeBot | 166 |
| /stores | PerplexityBot | 131 |

Questions about Proofsource and Akamai
What does Proofsource receive from Akamai?
Only the DataStream fields you choose: time, client address, user agent, path, host, status, method and referrer. Proofsource keeps AI crawler visits and discards the rest. It does not read your Akamai configuration.
How do I connect Akamai?
Create a DataStream stream for the property, choose Custom HTTPS, and paste the Proofsource URL with an Authorization header holding your key. The card in Integrations shows the exact values.
What if my field names differ?
Every line goes through a field mapping on the card, so you can map your names to the ones Proofsource expects. Time, address, user agent and path make the counts exact.
Can Proofsource change my Akamai setup?
No. DataStream pushes logs out and Proofsource only receives them, so it never touches your Akamai configuration.
How do I disconnect?
Deactivate or delete the stream in Akamai Control Center. Logs stop immediately. Earlier counts stay in your history unless you ask us to remove them.
How does this help my AI visibility?
AI engines cite pages they can fetch. Verified visit counts show which pages are reached and which are not, so you fix the right pages, and Proofsource then checks whether the engines name you.
Which AI engines does Proofsource check?
Up to 10 depending on your plan: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI. The free scan and the trial run four.
